Hi karin
I have had my second scan at the clinic in Copenhagen and am very much a poor responder with only one egg even after the stimulation. We go back on Saturday which is Day 12 to discuss whether to continue with the treatment or not. The consultant had tols me on day 7 that they would prefer to hve 6 eggs but would need 2-3. It will be our decision re. proceeding. My partner has a high volume of sperm but low mobility. He is 48 and I am 39 (40 in the Summer). I am devastated and searching for answers/guidance on the internet. I read you only need one egg and think that maybe we should see this attempt through to the end though I am told there is only a 10% chance of success, also that future IVF treatment really will not make any difference and will have less chance. He is suggesting egg donation may be the only option and I am not sure how we feel about that. Have you any thoughts/guidance on any of the above especially moving forward with IVF with only one egg showing up on the scan after stimulation? Thank yo

Hi Fi -- thanks for being in touch with this update. Welcome to Fertility Planit! I, too, was a "low responder" and produced only 1 or 2 eggs per IVF cycle. In the end, I got myself as healthy as possible via fertility diets (lots of good info available if you want it, let me know and I can steer you towards some great resources) -- and then fell pregnant naturally, even after my clinic told me I would never conceive with my own eggs.

How to respond to this information is such a personal choice. Do you know if your clinic can test the health of the egg, to find out if its chromosomal health is ok? Please do ask your doctor about this option, and whether or not they offer it. I think I would ask your consultant what he/she thinks is the best thing to do. It's a long way to go to fertilize one egg and see what happens -- not to mention expensive -- but it may be worth it. I think in the end you may be sorry if you don't try this one egg -- you may always wonder if this was the one. Really a very tough decision and an extremely personal one.

Have you considered asking other consultants for advice on what they would suggest?

Are you doing anything to boost your health and fitness during this time? I found that optimizing my health in every way -- mind, body and spirit -- was very helpful, not only for boosting my chances of success with fertility treatments, but for my overall sense of well being while making very tough decisions.

Please keep me posted -- do let me know how you're doing and how your decision making process is going.

Warmly, Karin

Just received a note from a close friend -- she's had yet another pregnancy fail, another miscarriage followed by a D&C. This is now her 4th or 5th such experience. My heart goes out to her and her husband completely, and I'm taken right back to my own painful experiences with loss and disappointment with my own failed pregnancies. I'm reminded again and again of the value of offering information, support and inspiration to people who want to have children -- and doing so in a safe, like-minded place. Sending blessings your way, my dear friend. Thinking of you. X

Hey Karin, I'm new! I want to know how do I change my Screen name?

Hi NickiZee -- thanks for your message. If you send me a message, and let me know what you'd like to change your screen name to, then I can make that change on your behalf. We don't readily offer that as a change in settings at the moment. Just go to my page on FP and click on "send message" underneath my picture. Thanks and Cheers, Karin

Happy to be starting off the day with the caffeinated drink provided to me by the wonderful Vicky of Embryo Donation International this mroning. Thank you Vicky! While I continue to maintain my fertility diet most of the time, it's coffee that I treat myself to when I'm in the mood for it. Kx

Have been asked several times today at the #AAARTA conference about why I choose to leave up Theresa Erickson's profile on Fertility Planit. The reason is simple: to encourage all of us to talk about her and what happened there. While the business side of the fertility and family building sector is well aware of who she is and the "the baby selling" scheme she started -- many of us, especially consumers, don't know anything about it. I encourage all of you who knew her, worked with her, had dealings with her -- and all of you who have views about what she did -- to share your views on her profile page. Let's talk about it. Let's learn from it. Let's share and enter into a dialogue about it. There is so much that is still being shaped and determined around family building law and practices -- especially as the rules and laws from country to country vary so greatly. Our dialogue and discussion inspire awareness and help us all be better informed. So go to her profile and tell us what you think please! Cheers, Karin

Meeting great people here at the #AAARTA conference in San Francisco and good to say hello to FP members in person. Just chatted with Meryl Rosenberg from ART Parenting -- she both facillitates the surrogacy process and is an attorney so she can also manage the legal contracts involved. Here's their FP page for more: http://www.fertilityplanit.com/profiles/ARTparenting/

Just back from the 65th annual ASRM conference in Orlando! ASRM is the American Society of Reproductive Medicine. Its conference has over 8000 attendees -- and it was an incredible flow of energy from people involved in all parts of the family building world. Loved it and met so many interesting people doing great work. Was also good to finally meet many of our FP members in person! Thanks to all of you who reached out to me and made an effort to connect in person. Fantastic experience. Hope to see you all at our conference this April in Los Angeles! Karin x

GLA

Dear Karin, I'm 44 (just!) and have been pregnant twice in my 40's. Sadly lost one at 17 weeks - a natural conception with my partner at 42 and lost one at 6 weeks via IUI in Denmark (Storkklinik) at 43, now single. I've just begun my first round of IUI with Clomid at Copenhagen Fertility Centre in the 'last chance saloon' although my FSH is 6.5 I have had to have large fibroids removed by open surgery after my first miscarriage. It's a tough journey and it's good to read about others facing the same. I write a blog, aimed at British women who get fobbed off by the NHS when they are single and over 39, www.morethanbaconandbutter.blogspot.com and hope to hear more success stories before I lose the will to breathe!

GLA, thank you so much for sharing a bit about your journey to motherhood and creating your family. I am moved and can completely empathize with what you've been and are going through. As you may know, I was a patient at the Copenhagen Fertility Center over a couple of years -- I had 1 x IVF there and about 3 x IUI. I'd love to hear how things go for you there. Dr. Lindenberg was a fantastic doctor -- and Vikki Budden, is the amazing acupuncturist there. If you have a chance to do acupuncture with her I highly recommend it. She is brilliant at what she does and is also a very warm, supportive person. Her father is British so her English is excellent and she understands British culture.

If you'd like tips on what to do and see while you're in CPH let me know. I think getting to know the city and Danish culture was a wonderful side benefit of doing my treatments there.

Your FSH is extremely good!! Lucky you. I'm sending you loads of sticky +++++ vibes! Please keep me posted. And hello and hugs to Vickie if you see her. Karin x
